I was in our school choir, and our outfits consisted of plaid skirts and red shirts with gold socks.(some colors huh) This was the Christmas colors, we traveled from place to place putting on shows. On Thanksgiving Day I wore those socks and we went to my Grandmother's home for Thanksgiving Lunch. I was standing next to my Mom and against the door. They were saying the Blessing over the food, and down I went between the freezer and the door, my Mom thought I was dancing, and others wasn't sure what I was doing. It took them a few minutes to realize that I had fainted and hit the floor. My grandmother went into her role and wanted to call the paramedics, I ended up in the bed for the rest of the meal. Now that was one incident, the second incident happened later on, we were all going boat riding on the Warrior River, as I was trying to get on the boat, I slipped on the boat and fell into the water, again I was wearing those gold socks, I ended up in the car trying to dry off. Now tell me, was it the gold socks, or was it just my luck on those two days?

Again we go back to the house in Wylam. My Mom had celebrated her birthday, a few days later it came a tornado warning in our area. She had her last piece of birthday cake and was heading downstairs to take shelter from the storm. She hit the foyer of the house, that she waxed more times than I can remember, and the floor had gotten wet somehow, she slid made a left turn and down the steps she went. She sought shelter the hard way, one step at a time on her rumpus , her birthday cake went flying through the air and landed on the wall and carpet. We cleaned cake up for a week after that incident. My Mom, Dad and I all have fallen down those stairs at one time or another, my sister is the only talented one in the family, she always tripped going up the stairs, now that is a special talent that don't come easy. | | Posted by sherry at 7:32 PM -

Well this is the third installation on the house in Wylam. For Christmas one year we got two trees, one for the upstairs and one for the downstairs. The den and living room ran one length of the house. My sister and I decorated both trees. We had lights of different colors on both trees and at night we would light both of them up. One morning the doorbell was ringing and I took off down the steps to find out what someone was wanting at that hour. They asked how we got two trees in the house. I told them we put two trees in because of our family was coming to our house for Christmas. A few days later my Dad was outside and someone stopped and asked him how we got that tree in the house. My Dad was on top of his game that day, he replied " We didn't put the tree in the house. We built the house around the tree" Well needless to say I rolled with laughter after that one . The bad part is that person really thought we built the house around that tree. During the Christmas season years ago, people would come in by the carloads to look at all the decorations people used for their homes and trees. I believe we had more traffic that year than any other year. Oh by the way, that was one fun Christmas !!!!!!! The Trees was aligned where it looked like one big tree in the house. | | Posted by sherry at 8:58 AM -

In my previous story I told about the cat in the house, that loved to play the piano. Well this story is on my dad. Right after we moved into this house, it came up a tornado warning in the night time, so we had to go to the basement to seek shelter. My Dad and Mom was asleep in the front bedroom and my sister and I shared the second bedroom. My Dad was a early riser, so the next morning he got out of bed and we heard a few choice words(can't repeat them, Mom reads my blog) Mom jumped up to see what the problem was, he was standing in water, the basement had flooded from all the rain from the storm, not only had it flooded, but it was ice cold too(talk about a wake up call). I cant remember who called the company that built the house, but they soon arrived on the scene and guess what, they had forgotten to put the drain pipes in, needless to say my Dad was After they fixed it, we never had a flood again, thank goodness for that, because we spent many a day and night in that basement seeking shelter from storms. | | Posted by sherry at 6:26 AM -

My Husband and I was discussing houses that we have lived in when we were growing up and what memories they held for us. The one I remember the most was the first house my Mom and Dad purchased in a community called Wylam, it was a two story home, 2 bedrooms upstairs, full bath, living room and kitchen, the downstairs consisted of 2 bedrooms, a half bath and a huge den. My Mom played the piano. So her piano was downstairs in the den. My sister and I had our own rooms, hers was upstairs and mine was downstairs. One day we was at home alone and we was sitting in the kitchen playing a game. All of a sudden we heard Mom's piano playing. We looked at each other, and the only way that piano could be playing was Mom had come home and got past us with out us knowing it. Needless to say, we knew that wasn't it. So we took off out the backdoor, ran down the alley to the next block, came back down and went to the house across the street to get our neighbor. He ran to see what was going on, thinking someone had broken in the house. He goes to investigate the music, there sat a huge cat on the keyboard, it was walking up and down the keys. Well we have solved one mystery, now how did the cat get in the house? To this day we have no clue how that cat got in the house. Alot of memories in that home, maybe one day will share another one, who knows? | | Posted by sherry at 7:22 PM -
